Economy
Seafood, timber and tourism have historically been the major industries in Harrison County. However, in recent decades, new industries have emerged that have helped make Harrison County one of the leaders in Mississippi’s economic renaissance.
Casinos, shipbuilding and pharmaceuticals are among those diverse industries responsible for the county’s prosperity. They have created thousands of jobs and have encouraged related industries to also locate to the area. The shipbuilding industry, for instance, has attracted composite technology, which will also support the growing field of aerospace.
With the Coast’s great amenities, the business incentives offered by the county and state and the support of the Harrison County Development Commission, existing businesses will continue to prosper and new, diverse companies will move to the area. New jobs will in turn be created and Harrison County’s economy will further flourish.
