The Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport on the Mississippi Gulf Coast continues to grow with expansions, renovations and more improvements to come, totaling close to $100 million.

A $50 million terminal expansion, designed to double the terminal capacity to 2.4 million passengers a year, has added new gates, baggage conveyors, airline ticket counters and rental car reservation counters; an expanded passenger screening area; a USO lounge for servicemen and women; and more. The airport is also in the process of building a three-level, 800-space parking garage that is set for completion in November of this year.

The expanded terminal allows for additional airlines and flights at the airport. Currently, the airport provides nonstop service on seven airlines to eight destinations.

Also just completed at the airport is a 46,000 square foot cargo facility. The facility includes 20,000 square feet of chiller, 20,000 square feet of cargo sorting and distribution space, and 6,000 square feet of office space. Airside access is available to the facility with a ramp that can facilitate two MD11s or DC10s or one B747.

Millions of dollars in investments are also being made around the airport. Two new hotels, a Hilton Garden Inn and a Marriot Residence Inn, recently opened across from the airport. Corporex, developer of the hotels, is planning to build a 100,000 square foot airport business center and expects to break ground in January 2009. Two restaurants are being planned within close proximity.
