Long Beach

A small but vibrant city tucked between Pass Christian and Gulfport, Long Beach is one of the most livable communities on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Its nickname, the “Friendly City,” says it all.

Originally settled in 1788, Long Beach was named for its wide, sloping beach. The beauty of its beach, combined with strong neighborhoods and an excellent school system, make Long Beach a popular residential community. It provides many who work in nearby Gulfport and Biloxi a quiet refuge with proximity to their jobs. Its beauty and sanctity have also appealed to senior citizens, making it a popular retirement destination.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Park Campus, located on the city’s beachfront, provides four-year degrees, bringing in students from across the Coast and allowing residents to further their education close to home.

The nearby Long Beach Industrial Park (LBIP) has been a mainstay in the local economy since the 1960s and has attracted high-tech manufacturers. The city’s downtown area is being revitalized, preparing the foundation for new businesses, shops and restaurants.
