With 192 full-time and 205 part-time workers and a 140,000 square-foot facility, the Army Nation Guard’s aviation depot is already a big operation in Gulfport. But plans are in the works to make it larger – doubling the size of the facility in anticipation of expected growth.
There’s something about the line of work of Seabees that seems a good fit for Gulfport. Seabees are blue collar workers who use their hands, muscle and sweat, and have a “can do” attitude to build whatever needs to be built. And they’ll fight, too.
It may be one of the more unusual jobs at John C. Stennis Space Center.
It was after midnight when the Coast Guard Station in Gulfport got a call from a woman who said her husband hadn’t returned from a fishing trip, and she was worried.

The long-term goal of the seminar is to establish a viable angel capital network that will be mutually beneficial to inspiring entrepreneurs and interested investors.
The City of Pass Christian, Mississippi has received generous support from across the state – and across the globe – in the development of two new public facilities. Marsha Barbour, wife of Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, has been influential in the construction of the Marsha Barbour Community Center. And, the Pass Christian Boys and Girls Club recently received a $5 million gift from the Middle Eastern country of Qatar.
South Mississippi recently hosted governors from across the U.S. for the National Governors Association’s (NGA) 101st Annual Meeting. The bipartisan group attended the four-day event to discuss various issues facing states and the nation, including the economy, education and emergency preparedness.
Metal Tech, Inc. of Gulfport and Entergy of Mississippi, Inc. of Jackson are the 2008 statewide winners of the Governor’s Cup Award. The winners were announced at this year’s Mississippi Economic Development Council’s awards banquet held July 23, 2009, in Biloxi, Miss.
